Past Websites
WebSite Description
Prospect Park YMCA The student website is a "collage" of personal web pages. Each student's page contains his or her autobiography and an abstract artistic representation of him or herself. Digital photos were taken, printed, and the students used raw materials and paint to make an abstract. The abstracts were then photographed and uploaded to the web.
Music is 2 Hot 2 Handle Music is the primary subject of this informational Web site, and the various dances associated with the particular genres of music represented constitute most of the remainder of the content.  Students worked in small groups on discovering and developing information on a given genre of music---on its historical and cultural context, on the instruments used to create the music, on the dance affiliated with the music, and on a handful of famous musicians most readily associated with the genre.
Solar System by IS.125 The student made a website about the solar system. Each student picked a planer or aspect of the solar system that he or she was interested in, did research, and constructed a short report. The combined their reports with images taken from the web to construct the site. To make the page more fun, they also constructed a mini quiz about the solar system and posted it to the site.
Patricia Polacco "Patricia Polacco" This site is a tribute to children's author Patricia Polacco. It was created by sixth and eighth grade students at a P.S. 225, a K-8 school in Brooklyn. The students took part in an author study, reading, comparing and discussing several books by the author. Through these discussions, the students wrote their own autobiographies as well as responses to the books.
Frederick Douglass Children Center The students made an institutional website for the center to inform the community of services offered and their role at the center.  Student did research and interviews about the center and used this information to create departmental descriptions.  They also made "about me" pages to help the community get to know them better.  The page is still under construction and work will continue over the summer and next year.
Subway Site This site was completed by eight grade students at I.S. 217, a middle school in Queens. The students conducted research on the subway as well as visited several key stations and the New York Transit Museum. The site shares interesting information about NYC's subway system.
Angel and Ellis Island This site was completed by seventh and eighth grade students at I.S. 217, a middle school in Queens. The school is multicultural, with students representing many different cultures. This site explores some of the experiences of immigrants in the past.
I.S.93 Self Portrait Gallery This Web site is a collection of self portraits of students from I.S. 93 and their favorite painters.
Harlem Webpage This Web site was created by 5th grade students at the Dunlevy Milbank Children's Aid Society in Harlem and their teacher, André Jones. Based on his interaction with the students, the class decided to work on their guide to Harlem. The site is organized according to the "who, what, when, where, and why" of Harlem. The students used their own knowledge of their neighborhood, as well as information they gained through their interviews and research. This site is the result of the first year at Stretch; the students and teacher intend to add new features to the site during the second year.
Multicultural Music This Web site was created by 6th and 7th grade students at I.S. 126 in Queens, a middle school dedicated to the arts. The teacher, Ray Velazquez, was interested in developing a site about music. Due to the multicultural character of the school, he decided to work on an informational site about music from around the world representing each student's culture. The students researched and shared music from their own ethnic and cultural background in the creation of their site. This site is the product of a years work; it will be expanded in the students second year of Project Stretch.
GeoSpace This science Web site was created by a group of 8th grade students at I.S. 125 in Queens. The teacher, Doug Portmore, was interested in making a quality informational site that dealt with Earth and Space Science. A Science teacher himself, he was frustrated with the lack of resources for his students in this area. This site was completed in one year and reflects the work of one year. The students graduated from the school.

Kids On Nutrition 2005

Kids On Nutrition 2004

This Web site is a fun-filled, informational site about nutrition.  It was constructed over a two-year period and includes the work of several groups of students.  Visitors can find information about calories, nutritional value of foods, etc.; they can take fun quizzes to test their knowledge of nutrition; they can peruse the extensive glossary related to nutrition; they can follow an animated activity about the flow of food in the digestive system!  While the site is very intricate and contains lots of information, it is still under construction.
